Our History

How Our Story Began

1974 was a landmark year. Richard Nixon became our first U.S. President to resign from office, Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s world record with his 715th career home run, and Rhode Island’s very own Ted Hood brought the America’s Cup home to Newport in his yacht “Courageous.”

1974 was also a courageous milestone year for father/son team Gene Orsi, his late father “Libby” Orsi and business partner Tom Colantonio. Off to a humble start, these three men opened a shop out of a two car garage in Providence that sold store fixtures to small commercial and retail business. Fast forward 50 remarkable years, two moves, constant growth and unparalleled workmanship, and today the business is not only going strong, but it is also flourishing.

Gene’s sons, Michael and Steven, are both involved in the business, representing the next generation of Orsis to continue the work started by their father and grandfather. Cole Cabinet consists of two divisions: commercial/custom millwork and residential/retail. Michael and Steven oversee their separate divisions but work together on projects, as necessary.
